Description

Chase the Northern Lights in Piteå, Swedish Lapland! Our experienced guides lead your search for the magical Aurora Borealis. This evening adventure will be an unforgettable night out.

We chase the Northern lights by car. Our main goal is simple: find the best spots to catch the Northern Lights. We make sure to get far away from Piteå’s city lights. This helps us find the darkest sky possible, which is essential for seeing the faintest lights.

You and your guide actively chase these magical lights together. The Aurora is a real natural phenomenon you must see!

What to Expect on Your Aurora Adventure

We pick you up directly at your accommodation in Piteå. After everyone is in the car, your guide starts the chase right away.

We don’t just hunt the Aurora. Your guide also takes care of you. They provide a nice warm drink to keep you comfortable. The guide also shares lots of fascinating facts—you’ll learn the science and the stories behind the dancing green lights.

Our guide is key to a successful night! They choose the stops carefully. They base their decision on experience, weather reports, and the aurora forecast. We stay flexible and will likely visit several spots during the night. This  increases your chance for a perfect sighting.

At one spot, we take a cozy break. Your guide treats you to traditional Swedish Fika. You can enjoy a warm beverage and a sweet treat while looking up at the sky. Warm up and feel free to ask the guide anything you want to know about the Northern Lights or life here in Lapland.

Why go out with a guide?

Even when there is a possibility of seeing the Northern Lights, it does not mean they are visible from every location or at every hour of the evening. Your guide has the tools and experience to find the best location to watch this light show; to find these locations, it is of course easier to go with a guide who knows the area well.

In addition to finding the right spot, your guide can change plans when necessary to increase your chances of seeing the lights. It is also possible that you will see more than just the Aurora, such as animal tracks or even a moose! Your guide can share information about all of these different subjects, ensuring it will most likely be a fun evening out with a great chance to see the Northern Lights.

How to prepare

1. Stay Warm: Layer Up!

  • Our biggest tip is to dress warmly! Temperatures can drop very low.

  • When in doubt about an extra layer, always put it on. It is better to have too many layers than to be too cold.

  • For your comfort, we highly recommend thermal underwear, wool socks, waterproof outerwear, and well-insulated boots.

2. Capture the Magic: Camera & Phone

  • Don’t forget to bring a fully charged phone or camera! Cold temperatures drain batteries much faster, so consider bringing an extra battery pack if you have one.

  • This will ensure you are ready to capture the amazing Northern Lights when they appear.

3. Bring Your Adventure Spirit!

  • The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon, which means we cannot guarantee a sighting.

  • We will most likely need patience and a willingness to chase the lights! Bring your sense of adventure and be prepared for an exciting search. The reward is always worth the effort.

Children

We believe our Northern Lights tours are suitable for children aged 8 years and older.

This recommendation is because our Northern Lights tours take place late in the evening, which often results in younger children falling asleep in the car. Additionally, the temperatures usually drop significantly in the evening/night. Since we spend most of the time watching the sky, it can be very cold for the children.

From the age of 8, a child’s interest is usually higher, and they can be involved in activities like making a fire, for example.

If you are on holiday with younger children, please feel free to contact us. We would be happy to discuss the possibility of a private tour. With a private tour, we can easily adjust the timing and pace to your family’s needs, ensuring everyone stays happy throughout the tour.

Why should we go on a Northern light tour?

Seeing the Northern Lights is more than just watching through your window or stepping outside for one minute. Even when there is a possibility of seeing the Aurora, it does not mean they are visible from every location or at every hour of the evening. Many factors play a role in whether you will see the lights from your current spot or the location you visit.

Your guide has the tools and experience to find the best location to watch this light show. Factors like light pollution, cloud coverage, and more will influence the guide’s decision to go to a specific place.

In addition to finding the right spot, your guide can change plans when necessary to increase your chances of seeing the lights. When sudden weather changes occur, your guide has the possibility to switch to a different location or decide to stay put. It is also possible that you will see more than just the Aurora, such as animal tracks or even a moose! Your guide will share information about all of these different subjects, ensuring it will most likely be a fun evening out with a great chance to see the Northern Lights.

What If you dont see the Northern ligths?

The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon, which means we cannot control them. However, we do our best to use our expertise to give you a high chance of seeing the Northern Lights.

If you do not see the Northern Lights, you will still return to your accommodation with a lot of knowledge about the Aurora and the surrounding area. We have organized the tour in such a way that it is still an amazing night out even if the lights do not appear.

If the chance of seeing the Northern Lights is zero, we will try to find a different place to visit within the three hours or reschedule the tour within your travel dates.
